YOUTHMOVIES

"Like a post-hardcore brainstorming session on where music should go next." Steve Lamacq

Hailing from Belfast, Brighton, Bedford and Manchester respectively Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies got together in 2003 in the one horse town of High Wycombe.  Their name was cynically taken from a music industry text book referring to a marketing strategy wherein bands are put on the soundtracks of youth films to boost the sales of both the band and the movie for a quick turnover of both.

Now four years into the life of YmSS, they have adopted the name Youthmovies, given to them by their followers, as a nod to them for their support, and to forgo an explanation that loses all meaning the thousandth time you give it, "maybe it's better to be called something meaningless, than not really know what the meaning means to you anymore!"  After taking more or less all of 2005 away from the band due to low funds, low spirits and in-band tensions, they pulled back together refreshed, closer and more focused than ever… subsequently an exhaustive search for a fifth member produced multi-instrumentalist Sam Scott mid 2006.

Youthmovies' music is the result of tastes colliding, and represents a love for sixties pop, seventies rock, prog, dance music, noise and no-wave, the camp, the grotesque and the comical making "a perfect blend of punk attitude and progressive thinking... the British band you'll want nourishing your deepest musical hunger; the group that reaches the spots others can't reach" (Comes With A Smile).  Asking them to pin down their influences is a tricky job, but Youthmovies could be said to be influenced by the likes of King Crimson, The Band, Sonic Youth, John Coltrane, Love, Growing and The Shins.

Having played numerous self-financed D.I.Y tours the length and breadth of the country, haemorrhaging money in order to pursue a passion for music, the band have developed a reputation for stunning live shows ('KKKKK' Kerrang!), displaying a warmth, sincerity and stop-on-a-penny musicianship that transcends that of many of their contemporaries.

"Youthmovies take you on a musical journey like no other. Youthmovies are true believers in the power of music - not as a commodity, but as a way of truly stirring the soul. Amazing stuff." Rocksound

"Like reading a great book that you think has taken five minutes to read and when you look up it's dark... like being taken on a journey through varied and strange places... like the soundtrack to a restful but excited mind." Artrocker

"If you're looking for a band who fly in the face of convention, look no further"
